Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
Our program and its sponsoring institution, Providence, are committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce as well as addressing the historical inequities and discrimination inherent in our medical system that affect both patients and caregivers. As part of this commitment, Providence has made a $50 million investment over five years (starting in 2020) to reduce health disparities and achieve health equity. A crucial part of the original mission of Providence is to care for the poor and vulnerable. Providence also offers a 12-month Health Equity Fellowship program for employees that is focused on health equity integration and quality improvement. Family Leave
Our program follows the ABPMR policy for Family Leave, allowing for up to six weeks of family leave annually. Residents also have the option to take up to an additional four consecutive weeks away from training for parental, caregiver, and medical leave. These additional four weeks can be taken once during the entirety of training. Trainees may use this additional time off for the birth and care of a newborn, adopted, or foster child (parental leave); care of an immediate family member (child, spouse, or parent) with a serious health condition (caregiver leave); or the trainee's own serious health condition (medical leave). Trainees must receive approval from the residency program director prior to taking this leave time. Trainees may also be responsible for extending the duration of residency to make up for time spent on leave - this will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
