Preparing for Practice
The goal of our curriculum is to prepare residents for whatever their professional aspirations may be. We strive to develop strong physiatrists who are exposed to a diversity of specialties and provide high-quality care for all patients.
A comprehensive curriculum that develops strong physiatrists exposed to a broad array of pathologies in diverse settings
Schedule: The PGY-2 year is divided into six rotations of two calendar-months' duration. The PGY-3 and PGY-4 years operate on four-week rotation cycles at a variety of inpatient and outpatient sites. Please see sample schedule below.
Program Length: Starting July 2025, the program will transition to a categorical program of 4 years in length
Intern Year
Beginning July 2025, the program will transition into a categorical model where PGY-1 residents will be integrated into the rehabilitation pipeline from day one. Neuromuscular Medicine + Movement Disorders
A unique and important experience with Neuromuscular Medicine fellowship trained physiatrists and neurologists. Our residents develop high competence in EMG and easily surpass the required 200 EMG studies required by the ACGME.
Residents are part of the multidisciplinary ALS Clinic where they work closely with neurologists, therapists and social workers to ensure comprehensive care addressing various stages of disease progression.
Muscular Dystrophy Clinic exposes residents to unique, diverse and occasionally rare pathologies that offers a rewarding experience in improving patient functionality.
Residents also work closely with neurologists in Movement Disorders Clinic addressing disorders of the peripheral nervous system, motor control studies for movement disorders, as well as botulinum toxin injections for movement disorders, excessive salivation, migraine, and spasticity.
We are clinical and research partners with the Steve Gleason Institute for Neurosciences, a collaboration with Washington State University for people with ALS.
