The Lilac City

Spokane, Washington, is the economic and cultural center of the Inland Northwest. Spokane was named for the Spokane Tribe, which means "Children of the Sun." Located in Eastern Washington, Spokane County is home to over 500,000 people. The area is anchored by multiple universities, including Gonzaga, Whitworth, Washington State University, and Eastern Washington University; as well as graduate programs in medicine, nursing, and law. Spokane hosts an NWL minor league baseball team, the Spokane Indians, and a CHL hockey team, the Spokane Chiefs. The Spokane International Airport allows for easy domestic and international air travel. Spokane residents enjoy access to the area's many parks, museums, theaters, and plethora of outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking, skiing, camping, and fishing in Eastern Washington and neighboring North Idaho.
