Mission statement: Our mission is to train well-rounded physiatrists who will become excellent clinicians and care for their communities.
A message from our Program Director
Welcome to the home page of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency program at Providence St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Medical Center! We're proud to have an outstanding team of board-certified physicians who are not only highly respected for their clinical expertise but also have been recognized for their exceptional teaching skills at both our program and national levels. Our faculty have published over 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts and secured more than $25 million in research funding, making us a robust residency program in the Inland Northwest.
Our program partners with a variety of large regional hospitals, with the primary training site at Providence St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Medical Center. As the largest free-standing Level I trauma rehabilitation hospital in the region, St. Luke’s has been serving the Inland Northwest for many decades. With 90 inpatient beds, we cater to a diverse range of diagnoses for both adult and pediatric acute inpatient rehabilitation each year. Our inpatient facility features several dedicated therapy gyms as well as a pool for aquatic therapy.
St. Luke’s also boasts a state-of-the-art physiatry interprofessional clinic right on the main campus. Patients here are treated for a wide range of conditions typically managed by physiatrists, including acquired and inherited neuromuscular diagnoses and disorders. We perform hundreds of electrodiagnostic examinations annually, with several faculty members holding EMG subspecialty board certification. Plus, we collaborate with local providers with a rich history in resident education for training in pain management and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. We're proud to be clinical and research partners with the Steve Gleason Institute for Neurosciences, a joint effort with Washington State University to support individuals with ALS.
Through our diverse rotation sites, we aim to develop physiatrists ready for careers in academic medicine, private practice, or further fellowship training. Spokane, known for its natural beauty and array of recreational activities, offers a welcoming environment thanks to our community-focused training approach in a smaller city setting.
We'd love for you to learn more about our program. Feel free to reach out via the "Apply" tab above if you have any questions. We look forward to connecting with you!
